The following
information was obtained through the grapevine - it's guaranteed to
be updated in the near future, as we find out more about it.
Tsu•na•mi (tsoo-nä-me-)
/n/. A huge wave of sound caused by Throttle Up's newest and slightly
unpronounceable product.
This new sound decoder replaces
the venerable, but now discontinued, DSD150, and is now shipping. This
new line has several new features that are now available through new
technologies.
- DCC or DC operation: Although designed
for DCC, the Tsunami will work at a slightly reduced functionality
on DC
|
-
1.7" x 0.67" x 0.28"
-
30% shorter and 50% thinner than its predecessor, the DSD-150.
-
All sounds have
been remixed and digitally re-mastered from prior versions
-
Multiple whistles
and horns in the same package - you can reconfigure the sound for
your locos - air horn included in the GS4!
-
Short whistle /
horn - a separate function key (nominally F3) will give a short
toot for signaling
-
Playable
Horn/Whistle - can becontrolled with a Digitrax DT400 throttle.
This throttle has a pressure-sensitive Function 2 button that will change
the pitch of the horn/whistle as finger pressure on that button
is changed. For more information, refer to the DT400
documentation.
-
Dynamo - instead
of just coming on, the (steam) dynamo spools up to speed and the
headlight increases in brightness with increasing speed (Dyno-Light).
-
Brake Squeal -
manual activation or automatic activation on slowing
-
Water Stop - loco
stopped, a function key will activate a sequence where the hatch
opens, water fills, etc.
-
Over 22 steam sounds,
including: bell, air pump, exhaust chuff, coupler clank, steam release,
cylinder cocks, snifter valves, brake release, side rod clank, Johnson
bar / power reverse, blower, injector, Fireman Fred, and more.
-
Over 16 diesel
sounds, including: bell, prime mover start, prime mover exhaust,
engine shut down, dynamic brakes, air compressor, brake release,
coupler clank, and more.
-
HyperDrive motion
control system includes Load compensation - BEMF, whatever you like
to call it. I have questions about this, such as do you need to
have BEMF speed control to also get sound compensation for loading/unloading
(going up and down grades)?
-
High frequency
PWM drive - Silent Running, again, whatever you call it - adjustable
to 39 kHz!
-
Torque control
- automatic compensation for the low speed torque lost by High frequency
PWM drive. I also have questions about this, such as how it's implemented.
Does it just add a little more voltage like Digitrax's does, or
does it do something special like Train Control Systems' does?
-
High resolution
speed control - 2048 speed steps - interpolated from your DCC settings
of 14 to 128 steps
-
Speed curves: CV02
- start speed, or CV67 - 94 - user loaded speed curve, or choice
of 14 factory loaded speed curves. Apparently it still doesn't have
V-Mid and V-Max implemented.
-
Adjustable starting
and stopping momentum (CV03 and 04)
-
Choice of amperage
ratings - initially offered as the DSS1000 series for 1-amp stall
current, future releases include DSS3000 (3-amp stall) and DSS5000
(5-amp stall) versions.
-
Sound effects processor
- adjust or shut off individual effects
-
Mixer - 24 individual
volume settings plus a master volume control
-
Mute function is
a fade, not on / off
-
Dynamic Digital
Exhaust (DDE) processor - as the BEMF function kicks in to deal
with heavier loads, the DDE adds more side rod clank, and a heavier
chuff AUTOMATICALLY! Again, to you have to take BEMF speed control
to get this sound control?
-
Reverb - adding
reverb to selected sounds can create special effects - for example,
reverb on a prime mover exhaust will provide the effect of multiple
units with a single sound module!
-
7-band equalizer
- adjust the level in a given frequency range + / - 12 dB to compensate
for speaker anomalies.
-
Lighting effects
- in addition to the 14 HyperLight effects we have come to associate
with SoundTraxx™ products, some new wrinkles are added:
- Dyno-Light - as the steam dynamo
spools up to speed, the headlight increases in brightness with
increasing speed
- LED brightness correction -
the HyperLight effects will be equally eye-popping whether incandescent
bulbs or LEDs are used
- Other effects: directional lighting,
Rule 17 lighting, Grade crossing timers for ditch lights, adjustable
flash rate
