These are sound-only decoders. They do not have provision to run the motor or control the lights. Once installed, the DSX provides sound effects for slow-chuff while idle, chuff cadence according to the loco's speed, and various background sounds. For Digital Command Control (DCC) only.

The sounds provided by these sound units are digital playback of recordings from real locos, but they are not just simple playback loops. They are interactive and will respond to you, the engineer, just like a real loco. The airpumps change speed as pressure is built and used. The whistle reacts directly to your control of the whistle button, allowing you to whistle long or short.

If you can't find the engine sound for the exact loco you have, we suggest you listen to the whistles and select the one that comes closest to what you think it should sound like. When it comes to steam, the chuffs and bells will all pretty much sound alike to anyone but an aficionado. However, there are some differences, such as the Shay and articulateds. So, if choosing a sound unit for an articulated, select either the UP Challenger or N&W Class A. If choosing for a loco with a quick staccato sound, select the 3-Truck Shay. If you want the peanut whistle, select the British Tank engine. For all others, select the whistle you prefer.
Select the whistle you want from the list below.
