to build the test box shown here. When built, turn the dial to 1K ohm,
clip it in series with the bulb you're testing, at the voltage that
will be used, then turn the dial down until the bulb shows the brightness
you want. |

Always start at the 1K ohm setting so you won't over-drive the bulb. The lower you turn the dial down, the brighter the bulb will get. When the bulb gets to a brightness that is satisfactory to you, read the value of the dial setting for the resistor to use. The key to a long bulb life is
providing good brightness with the least amount of current. Making the
bulb brighter than necessary, with a lower resistance resistor, equates
to a shorter bulb life. This box makes finding the best resistor for
the bulb quick and easy. |
