| What to get for the model railroader
in your family? That is the question. Following are some fairly generic
suggestions for gifts. Along with the item will be some information
so you can insure that the item is useful to your model railroader. Most
of the items listed below are applicable to any Model Railroader who
is interested in Digital Control Command (DCC). However, a few of
the gifts require you to know what scale your Model Railroader has.

Zephyr
DCC System If your model railroader has been talking about getting into Digital Command Control (DCC), the Zephyr is the perfect starter set for N and HO scale. It's low in cost, yet has all the standard high-end features, plus some features that no other system has. And since the Zephyr is 100% LocoNet compatible, there are already dozens of accessories available for it right now. Other low-cost starter sets are missing some important high-end features and have few accessories available---effectively making them dead end. Yet, as versatile and upgradable as the Zephyr is, it is extremely easy to learn and use. Of course, if you want the ultimate DCC system for your model railroader, you'll want to get the Super Chief or Super Radio Chief. For G- scale, you'll want the 8-amp Super Radio Chief. |

Toys Light Stick
Model railroaders have been using bamboo skewers to uncouple cars for years. As I get older, I find that I need more and more light to see details. This is a problem when using a skewer to uncouple cars. My solution is to add a light to the skewer. This uncoupler stick is a skewer with a standard UltraBright Key chain light mounted on it. It not only works well to see couplers, but also to see reporting marks and numbers between the cars in yards. The light can be turned on momentarily by squeezing, or can be toggled on with a slide switch. This is good for all scales. |

Lubricants These are the finest lubricants made for model railroading. Even the lubrication needles are superior to other brands because they are much smaller, allowing a much smaller drop of lubricant to be dispensed. Conducta Lube is for lubrication of all metal joints where electricity passes on any scale. Motor Bearing Lube is for the high rotational speed of the motor armature on any scale. Heavy Duty Bearing Lube is for slower-moving higher-stress areas of wheel bearings (usually on larger scales). N-Jel Gear Lube is for drive train gears in any scale. |
