Installation of Coiled Throttle Cord Directly Onto the PC Board

MSRP Loy's Price
. $15.00

This coiled cord has six conductors, so can be used with any Digitrax throttle. The cord is 40 inches long, including the two 3" leads, when coiled up, and easily stretches to 10 feet. It comes with RJ-12 plugs on both ends, so can be installed in either of two ways.

There are two ways to install a coiled cord on a throttle:

  1. Soldered directly on the PC board inside the throttle
  2. Connected with a Female/Female connector.

Soldering the coiled cord directly onto the PC board requires opening the throttle, cutting the cable tie strain relief, unsoldering the existing cord, soldering the new cord on, installing a new cable tie strain relief, and closing the throttle back up. Obviously, doing this will void your warranty.

We can install a Coiled Cord on your non-radio throttle without voiding your warranty. In fact, it's what we do if you order a throttle with a Coiled Cord already installed. If you want to send your non-radio throttle in to have us install a coiled cord, the price is $15 plus the cost of the cord. Just order your coiled cord and installation, then send your throttle to us, via U.S. Postal Service, at P.O. Box 88, Wesley, AR 72773. Or, send it via UPS, FedEx, or any other service, to 1025 Madison 6376, Elkins, AR 72727. Don't forget to insure it.

If you want to purchase a new throttle with the Coiled Cord already installed, go to the Throttle page and order the throttle of your choice with the ID number that ends with "C". Radio throttles cannot be ordered with a coiled cord and we cannot install a coiled cord directly onto one of them. Since all Digitrax radio throttles are certified by the FCC with the existing 1-foot cord, changing that could be voiding the FCC certification. However, there's nothing wrong with connecting the Coiled Cord to a radio throttle's 1-foot cord with a Female/Female connector).

Installation of a Coiled Cord with a Female/Female connector is good for all throttles, including radio throttles. If you want to retain your full existing cord on your non-radio throttle, and simply add the Coiled Cord to it, just order the Female/Female connector along with the cord.

However, if you want to reduce the length of the existing cord, this requires you to cut the existing cord to whatever length you want (we recommend that it not be shorter than about 4 inches - 12 inches works best, we think), crimp a new plug onto the cord, then plug the Coiled Cord on with a Female/Female connector. We don't recommend changing the radio throttle cord in any way - just connect the Coiled Cord to it with the Female/Female connector.

If you have a crimp tool and a 6-conductor plug to crimp onto the cut cord of your non-radio throttle, you're all set - just order the coiled cord and add a Female/Female connector. If you don't have the crimp tool, you can either order one of those and a plug along with the coiled cord, or send your throttle to us and we'll crimp the new plug on for you for $1 plus return shipping - be sure to tell us how much cord you want left on, and don't forget to order the Female/Female connector with it. Of course, with a radio throttle, all you need is the Coiled Cord and Female/Female connector.

If ordering the Installed Plug along with your Coiled Cord connector, send your throttle to the same address listed above.
