These
Life-Like models come DCC ready. While this makes decoder installation
very easy, there are some alternatives some people may want to consider
if the model has a Mars light. Not all models have a Mars light, so
there's no need to consider anything else except simply plugging the
decoder of your choice into the provided NMRA socket. If the loco
has a Mars light, you have two choices: use the Mars light as it came
from the factory, or re-wire it to use the decoder's Mars light simulation. |

| Decoder Selection |
|
Any decoder
with an NMRA plug that will fit in the 1.25" long decoder pocket
and provide 1-amp of current will do. We have several different decoders
that fit this description. Note that the direct (integral) plug decoders
won't work without modification or additions, so they are not listed.
If you need a decoder with the Mars light effect, be sure to avoid those listed below that do not have it. Likewise, if you plan to hard-wire the bulb to the harness, you should get a decoder that also has the JST connector - this doesn't matter so much if you use the 2-pin connector on the bulb to the harness. |
