Pacific started service around 1919. The "Light" designation limited
them to 54,000 pounds per axle. With a total weight of around 277,000
pounds, they had a tractive force rated at 40,700. |

| Decoder Selection |

Literally any decoder with a
JST connector will work. If the decoder is too large for the hole
in the tender, you can remove the shell, stick the harness JST connector
through the hole, then plug the decoder in. Following is a list of
decoders we carry which have the JST connector. For more about these

The only Pacific sound decoder that Throttle Up! offers is recorded from a Penn K4. Generally speaking, the biggest difference in sound from one DSD-150 to another is the whistle. If you're not sure what sound you want your loco to have, you can go to our Sound Decoder section and listen to the whistles of various other sound units. If you find one you like better than the Penn K4, go ahead and use it - nobody but an afficionado will know the difference. Neither of these decoders includes the speaker or speaker enclosure. This tender can easily accommodate a 1" round speaker or Throttle Up's Edge Port speaker. The round speaker and enclosure kit costs less but requires additional time to assemble. The Edgeport speaker cost more but is already enclosed - some say it sounds better too. Whether you choose the plastic or lead enclosure kit is a personal choice. Personally, I prefer the lead enclosures because they're easier to make fit the exact space you have. But the main thing is that you provide an enclosure for the speaker in order to get the most out of it. |
