| Decoder Selection |
|
This is a plug-n-play installation where any decoder with an NMRA plug will work. We stock several different decoders that fit this criteria. Note that wire harness decoders listed below all have our custom fit PJ harness for this loco. For more about these decoders, refer to the Decoder section. Decoder installation requires only the removal of the dummy plug and plugging in a decoder that has the NMRA plug. Pin 1 is on the end the Dummy plug arrow points to. As such, our "PJ" wire harness is designed to fit this loco perfectly. |

Throttle Up! (SoundTraxx) makes a decoder for the Northern 4-8-4 loco, listed below. This unit does not come with speaker or enclosure. Since there is plenty of room in the tender for the LS-O, that and the Edgeport speaker are the only ones listed below. While the Edgeport speaker is the easiest to install (not having to be enclosed), the LS-O provides better-quality sound at a lower cost. Throttle Up! (SoundTraxx) does not make a drop-in unit for this loco, but you can order a "PJ" harness to replace the one that comes on the sound decoder to make it almost plug-n-play. |
