This model does not come DCC ready. However, decoder installation is no more difficult than any other hard-wire installation. In fact, since the motor is already isolated, it's a simple matter of cutting the two wires for the motor and power pickup connections.

Decoder Selection
Any wired decoder will do - that is, as long as it can handle enough current to do the job. The decoders listed below are all suitable. If you want separate control of the cab light, you'll need at least a 3-function decoder. We're also assuming you'll install a Fleet Lighter in the rear car. If you string wires for this, you'll need at least a 4-function decoder. Lastly, since this is a hard-wire job, we recommend you use a decoder that has the JST connector - decoders without the JST connector are not listed below even though they will work. For more about these decoders, refer to the Decoder section.

Sound Equipment Selection

The Generic Diesel sound unit has only two function wires - white and yellow. If you want separate control of the cab light, you'll need to add another decoder, such as the Fleet Lighter, up front, or use one of Throttle Up!'s DSD-150 sound decoders. Obviously, these sound units are NOT what the real Aerotrain sounded like, but since there is no recording of it these will be as close you you'll get - take it or leave it.

The speaker mounted in the rear, in the photo at right, is a Throttle Up! 0.56"-wide oval speaker. Normally we build an enclosure on the back. This time we simply glued pieces over the holes on the back side and sealed all cracks - it works fine. The speaker does not come with the sound unit, so has to be ordered separately.
