About Decoder Selection
Some simple things that will help you decide which decoder is right for you, your loco, and your way of operation.
BigBoy
TCS-T5XPS, TCS T4XPS. This loco has a Faulhaber ironless core motor, so it needs the Quiet Drive feature of the TCS decoders. You could wire a bulb in series with the orange wire if you want to use a Digitrax decoder for the Back-EMF control feature. This loco is also equipped for two Seuthe smoke generators. If you want to control them with the decoder, get the smoke units that are designed for DCC control (they draw less current and are designed to handle the higher voltages). You'll also need a decoder with more functions, such as the TCS-T5XPS or TCS-T4XPS.
Literature says it's set up for on-board sound in the tender. We haven't seen one yet, so we don't know exactly what that means.
