Each decoder has two CVs
(7 and 8) which provide information about who made the decoder and
which version it is.
CV7 is used to identify the decoder version. Each manufacturer has their own system for using this CV, so if you have specific questions about this value, you'll have to contact the manufacturer directly. CV8 is used to identify the manufacturer who made the decoder. Each manufacturer of DCC equipment is assigned an ID number. Digitrax's ID is 129 (Hex 81), Train Control Systems ID is 153 (Hex 99), and Throttle Up!'s ID is 141 (Hex 8D). When manufacturers make decoders, this ID number is imbedded in CV8. |

None of these CVs
is modifiable. In some cases, such as with Train Control Systems'
CV Reset feature, provision is made to
write to one of these CVs. But writing to it does not change it -
it just signals the decoder to perform a task elsewhere in the decoder. |

Manufacturers' numbers
are not intrusive. You do not need to bother with them unless you
want to know who made the decoder or which version it is. |
