Most of these NMRA harnesses are made for specific applications. But there are hundreds of different locos, many of which we've not seen. For that reason, we've provided the following information so you can check your loco to see if one of these harnesses will fit your application exactly. If your loco requires a special harness, we can provide you with a custom cable if you can provide us with a length and configuration code based upon the information below.

There are four different harness configurations, as illustrated below:

OS
Notice that the wires are leaving the NMRA plug away from the pin 1 (orange) side of the plug - hence, OS for Orange Side.
OE
Notice that the wires are leaving the NMRA plug away from the pin 1 (orange) end of the plug - hence, OE for Orange end.
GS
Notice that the wires are leaving the NMRA plug away from the pin 5 (grey) side of the plug - hence, GS for Grey Side.
GE

Notice that the wires are leaving the NMRA plug away from the pin 5 (grey) end of the plug - hence, GE for Grey End.

All there is to determining which harness you need for your application is to determine which way the wires need go away from the NMRA socket, and how long the wires need to be.

There is a specific place each wire color needs to be connected to when installing an NMRA plug onto a wire harness. Damage to the decoder could occur if the plug or socket is not wired as indicated at right. Before you take it upon yourself to try to do something unusual for whatever reason, it would be wise to consult with someone who knows how it all works.
