When you cut the mast off
for the signal base, there are two ways to mount the mast of your scale
signal to this board. There are four mast mounting holes that, when
cleaned out, you can string wire through to tie your mast to the board
- sort of like using twist ties to wire it to the board. On the back
side of the board, between those holes, is a large solder pad. This
can be used to solder your brass mast directly to this board instead
of using twist-tie mounting.
Once mounted, you can then bring the
LED wires around to solder to the appropriate solder pads (there are
more pads on the other side too). Since this board starts with two 3-light
heads, it's capable of handling a mast with up to two heads of three
lights each. Of course, it can also be used for two and three lead bi-color
LED signals, and many other signal types - with appropriate wiring.
The point is, you can do all your signal wiring at the bench and when
you're done all you have to do is go plug it in where it was before
you cut the original PC board mast and heads off. All-in-all, this is
probably the best new idea for signaling in ages.
