The LA2, UP3, UP5, UR90, and UR91 require a source of power between 12 and 18 volts, connected through a 2mm plug. This power supply has the proper voltage and connector, ready to plug in. When plugged into any of these devices, it provides throttle power during operating sessions. For the Big Boy, with an LA2 as opposed to an LA1, this means long derailment shorts won't cause you to lose locomotive assignments. If you're using the UT4, or DT100IR without a battery, you won't have a problem if the LocoNet voltage sags. For the PM42, BDL162, and BDL168, it provides power for the electronics on the board. You'll need to cut the connector off in order to solder the wires to the Card Edge Connector that came with your board. Each BDL162 OR BDL168 needs 100 mA, and each PM42 needs 125 mA. |
